Telecabs is a taxi fleet on the Isle of Man, operating around 30 vehicles. The company had experimented with accepting card payments through an online booking tool and over the telephone, but had encountered some significant difficulties:
Customers wanted the convenience of paying at the end of a journey, not at the time of booking.
Customers felt unsafe reading their card details to an operator over the phone.
Handling card payment information was causing the company to fall foul of PCI Data Security Standard rules.
A number of chargebacks had been received from disingenous customers, fraudulently claiming they had been incorrectly charged.
As a result, Telecabs started looking for a card payment solution which would enable the company to have a payment terminal in every vehicle, allowing customers to benefit from the convenience and security of paying for their journey on arrival at their destination.
After meeting with the CabCard fleets team, Telecabs decided to purchase a CabCard Handheld terminal for each of their drivers. The in-built receipt printer was considered to be a desirable feature for Telecabs customers.
CabCard's team configured all of the Telecabs driver terminals and tested them before sending them to the fleet to hand out to drivers. Each terminal was allocated to a driver, and each driver had an account set up by CabCard so that their fares and tips could be sent directly to the driver's bank account using the UK's Faster Payments system. Using the CabCard online dashboard, every Telecabs driver is able to view their transactions, account balance and payout history in real time from any device.
The Telecabs administration team was provided with access to the CabCard fleet operator dashboard, enabling the back office operators to have a real time overview of transactional activity across the fleet. In combination with their data dispatch system, this provides a highly detailed understanding of the jobs underway.
Telecabs has continued to see its business thrive after putting the CabCard payment system in place, as it offers customers a level of convenience and security which the firm's key competitors are lacking.
Customers can pay in the vehicle using Contactless, Apple Pay & Google Pay.
Drivers are paid directly into their bank accounts by CabCard, freeing up the fleet's management team for more important activities.
Telecabs managers have access to detailed analytics about each driver's transactional activity and history, allowing them to see who is performing best across their fleet.
